Find your size

Mestrae shoes are sized in UK. Use the guide below to find your fit and understand one important thing about how interchangeable heels size differently.

Important — read this first
Interchangeable heels size a little differently. Here is why.
When you buy a Mestrae shoe, you are buying it designed for heel height. When you switch to flats, your foot sits slightly further forward in the shoe and the fit becomes slightly roomier. For this reason, we recommend sizing down by half a size, or choosing your exact size if you are between sizes. If you are a true half size, go to the smaller whole size. If you normally size up for comfort, stay at your true size.

How to measure

Measure your foot at home

You need a piece of paper, a pen, and a ruler. Takes about two minutes and gives you the most accurate fit.

01
Stand on a piece of paper
Place the paper on a hard floor, not carpet. Stand with your full weight on the foot you are measuring. Your heel should be flat against a wall or a straight edge.
02
Mark the longest point
Make a mark at the very tip of your longest toe. For most people this is the big toe, but for some it is the second toe. Mark whichever is longer.
03
Mark your heel
Make a second mark at the back of your heel, as far back as the heel extends when standing normally.
04
Measure the distance
Measure in centimetres between the two marks. This is your foot length. Use the chart above to find your EU size, then apply the Mestrae sizing rule: go half a size down, or stay at your exact size.
05
Measure both feet
Most people have one foot slightly larger than the other. Always fit to your larger foot.
Tips for an accurate measurement
Measure in the afternoon or evening. Feet swell slightly throughout the day and are at their largest later on.
Measure while wearing the type of sock or stocking you plan to wear with the shoes, or measure barefoot for strappy styles.
Stand with your weight evenly distributed, not leaning. Pressure changes the measurement.
If you are measuring children, add 10–12mm for growing room.
If your measurement falls exactly between two sizes on the chart, always go to the larger EU size before applying the Mestrae half-size-down rule.

Between sizes

Not sure which size to choose?

This happens often. Use the guide below based on your situation.

My foot length falls exactly between two sizes
If you run narrow
Go to the smaller EU size. A narrower foot fills the shoe better at the smaller size, and the Mestrae fit accounts for some roominess in flats.
If you run standard
Go to the smaller EU size and apply the usual Mestrae rule. If that feels too snug, the larger size with the half-size-down adjustment effectively means your exact measurement size.
If you run wide
Go to the larger EU size. Mestrae is currently standard width only. A wider foot needs the additional length to accommodate natural spread when standing.

Common questions

Sizing questions we hear often

Why do I need to size down for interchangeable heels?
When you wear the shoe in heel mode, your foot sits at the angle designed for that heel height. When you switch to flats, your foot naturally comes further forward in the shoe and the fit becomes slightly roomier. Sizing down half a step compensates for this so the shoe fits well in both modes rather than feeling loose when flat.
I know my US size. How do I convert?
Find your US size in the chart above and note the UK size it maps to. If it maps to a half UK size, round down to the smaller whole number. For example, US 8 maps to UK 6, so you would order UK 6 from Mestrae.
I normally size up because I have wide feet. What should I do?
Mestrae is currently standard width only. If you normally size up for width, stay at your true length size rather than applying the half-size-down rule. The additional length gives your foot more room to spread. We are working on extended width options for a future range and would love to hear from you if this is important to your fit.
My left and right feet are different sizes. Which do I use?
Always fit to your larger foot. A shoe that fits your larger foot will be comfortable on both. A shoe sized to your smaller foot will be too tight on the larger one.
Can I return or exchange if the size is wrong?
Yes. Please see our shipping and returns page for full details. We want you to have the right fit and will always work with you to get there.
